Honing a design concept centered around internal connectivity, mindfulness, and an unwavering commitment to bringing the owner’s vision to life (a vision that progressed and developed throughout the project’s entire timeline, spanning over 10 years), Arcsine transformed the former two-story clutch repair shop into a stunning three-story contemporary home, nestled in the heart of San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood. Evoking an effortlessly minimalistic sense of light, balance, and functionality, the luxury residential project showcases Arcsine’s technical prowess and sensitivity to one’s experiences found within the home.

Combining Geometry and Design, and focusing on unique lines of vision to change the overall perception of the space, Arcsine began by first cutting into the original volume of the structure. This subtractive geometric practice helped provide a final layout that allows natural light to penetrate deeply into spaces within the home as well as to create a lofty, open-air experience throughout.

Featuring nearly 6,000 square feet of space, the Tehama residence achieves openness and continuous circulation due to its impressive staircase encasing the central three-story glass atrium. Running through all three floors, the cantilevered steel and walnut-clad staircase instantly stands out as the focal point—creating direct internal lines of sight for the house’s inhabitants regardless of what floor they are on. With four bedrooms, including a guest suite on the ground level and a master suite and two bedrooms on the top (third) level, the home maintains a clean yet comfortable family-friendly environment with subtle, elegant Middle Eastern touches throughout.
