The Production Architect at Arcsine
Arcsine is an Oakland and Los Angeles-based design and architecture firm that creates innovative and dynamic environments through a process called “Method Design.” Focused on hospitality and restaurant design, the firm prominently values its client relationships, leading to positive experiences driven by acute attention at every stage. Arcsine is looking for intermediate / senior level production architects with 7-20 years of experience related to tenant improvement, renovation, and adaptive re-use within the hospitality, retail, workplace and large-scale mixed-use projects. Experience in residential is a plus.
Candidates should be self-motivated, professional, and demonstrate creative design thinking. Applicants must possess design aptitude, technical competence, and ability to work on multiple concurrent projects. Candidates must exhibit personal responsibility and accountability and embrace open communication and team-oriented success.
A production architect needs to be able to perform computer tasks and attend and participate in project meetings in the office. They would also be required to visit project job sites in various stages of construction. Taking measurements and physically evaluating existing conditions would also be expected. Construction sites can be expected to have uneven surfaces for walking, obstacles to navigate around, and machinery and traffic to be mindful of.
RESPONSIBILITIES & JOB DESCRIPTION
A successful Intermediate/Senior Production Architect will showcase technical expertise of an experienced architect who both clearly understands and manages hospitality-focused new build and renovation projects. Under the direction of the Principal in Charge (PIC) and/or Director, or Senior Project Manager, the Production Architect will successfully lead and contribute to drawing production through all phases of work from concept through construction administration. They must thrive with personal responsibility and accountability but embrace open communication and team-oriented success.
Proficient Production Architect at Arcsine:
Studio & Team Support
Organizes and attends meetings with city officials to understand the planning, permitting and building process
Provides strong support to coordination process with consultant team (including but not limited to Lighting, MEP and Structural) to manage coordination and delivery of comprehensive project documentation
Strongly support the development and preparation of documentation required for City or County Planning Approval
Takes an active lead in developing production solutions to resolve complex technical and design challenges. Expresses those through sketches, drawings and 3D studies to convey intent for team coordination and drawing set completion.
With limited supervision, supports development of project manual and specifications
With limited supervision, prepares documentation for Pricing Sets, Building and Health Submittals, Bid and IFC Drawings
Leads preparation of the “comments and corrections” from governing agencies in order to obtain a permit from each of the jurisdictions
Exhibits strong working knowledge of building codes, accessibility guidelines, firm standards, building construction, and building structures
Participates in the bidding process by providing responses to RFIs and preparing Addendum Drawings based on General Contractor inquires
With limited supervision, conducts and documents site visits, processes submittals, substitution requests, and RFI’s without appropriately during construction
A strong Production Architect at Arcsine exhibits project managerial and leadership skills:
Participates with a collaborative team and client by clearly communicating (written and verbal) project objectives, contract scope, terms, and schedule set by others as it relates to drawing set management and completion
Exhibits thoughtful customer service skills and is comfortable in interfacing with clients, consultants, vendors and internal staff
Assists in preparation of scope of work documents, differentiation documents and project schedules
Participates in team meetings and monitors project deliverables against project contract
Provides feedback on staffed hours on a weekly basis and makes adjustment based on deliverable progress and overall project financial goals
When appropriate, identifies need for additional service requests and assists in preparation of the documentation
Provides innovative solutions to resolve complex technical and design challenges
Provides adequate direction to junior and intermediate staff on appropriate drawing set development that meet project appropriateness
Exhibits professionalism and acts as mentor to others
Is responsible for documentation deadlines are met
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in Hospitality Design related projects. (Hotel and Restaurant experience is preferred)
BA or MA in Architecture from an accredited program
California Architects Board License, NCARB, or similar, preferred
Demonstrated software proficiency including AutoCAD, Revit, Adobe products, and Sketch Up
Ability to sketch and draw by hand to effectively and quickly communicate with team and clients
Ability to work independently and effectively meet deadlines
