The Overlook
San Francisco, CA.
The Overlook Café transports members and guests to a time when mid-century modern architecture and design flourished. Situated above the pool room at The Olympic Club—a historical athletics club operating since 1860 in Downtown San Francisco—the café combines the club’s sports-driven heritage with stylish and contemporary accouterments.
The café’s logo—with the light blue-accentuated bottom of the letters playfully depicted as being half-submerged in water—along with a framed vintage club flag greets guests as they enter in the brightly lit space. Overlooking the club’s swimming pool, the multipurpose space features bold yet classic aesthetics such as white ceramic picket tiles and wood vinyl flooring. Original decorative posters from past sporting events at The Olympic Club provide a sense of artistic whimsy among the sleek furniture and chic elements. Custom red button-tufted banquettes and leather lounge booths contrast with the café’s aqua and neutral tones, contributing to a glamour perfectly tailored to contemporary tastes; effortless comfort, and ease of functionality.
Ample seating fit for any occasion includes counter-seating equipped with outlets, communal high-top tables, moveable C-shaped tables, and a coworking nook area with coffee tables. The elegant wooden ceiling, adorned with narrow strips of dark natural wood, blocks out any sound amplified by the swimming pool with acoustic felt and wooden veneers.
