Arcsine worked with Design Atelier in 2008 to re-position this building as a local boutique hotel. The design needed to enhance the property’s amenities and take advantage of the surrounding Mill Valley setting. Mill Valley’s craftsman-style vernacular provided a clear cue for the renovation. The design team replaced the mission colonial aesthetic with heavy timbers, board and batten siding, and a stained cedar trellis and fence. A refurbished pool terrace with cedar cabanas, new native landscaping, and outdoor seating areas strengthen the hotel’s connection to the adjacent wetlands and Mount Tamalpais.
