Bringing together local charm and regional fare
Shepherd & Sims
The Heart of Los Gatos
A contemporary American restaurant in Los Gatos, Shepherd & Sims is run by longtime locals and restaurateurs Jim and Angelique Stump, owners of several beloved restaurants in Northern California as part of their restaurant group, The Hot Behind You Hospitality Management Group. Due to Los Gatos’ proximity to the Santa Cruz mountains, the 148 seat-restaurant’s design inspiration relies on natural themes that tie into the town’s charismatic identity, including the namesake iconic cat sculptures. With Arcsine bringing a thorough understanding of the intersection between hospitality and design, Shepherd & Sims presents a wholesome, whimsical space that welcomes locals and out-of-town visitors to downtown Los Gatos.
A Warm Gathering Place
Featuring over 5,000 square feet of space, including a newly constructed outdoor parklet, Shepherd & Sims showcases a refreshing balance of warm and bright personal touches mixed with an elegant yet lively dining atmosphere. Recognizing the importance of Jim and Angelique’s deep connection to the community as well as their previous restaurant experience, Arcsine adopted an intentional design strategy that maintains the local theme. Accentuated with refined, heartfelt decorative elements that ground the entire space, couples and families alike will feel equally welcome at Shepherd & Sims.
Cats and Peaches
At the entrance, a stunning mural painted by local artist Cameron Moberg simultaneously greets and surprises guests—revealing intricate, playful paintings of classic Los Gatos facets such as the cats, home-grown peaches, hummingbirds, and the surrounding natural scenery. As guests walk through the entry doors, they’ll discover a custom black and white tiled mosaic featuring Shepherd & Sims’ recognizable ampersand logo. Warm, bright, and inviting spaces are crafted throughout the bar and restaurant via natural woods, organic materials, layered textures, and pops of color throughout. Arcsine’s color palette weaves together rich hues drawn from the region’s agricultural history such as deep teal, warm apricot, saffron, and sage, along with brass and walnut tones. The rear gallery wall displays memorabilia from Jim and Angie’s past, adding a nostalgic and authentic personal touch.
