Arcsine was commissioned to expand the presence of this Venezuelan restaurant at the main entrance to the Oxbow Public Market. The challenge was to transform this small, yet completely open area into a centerpiece and focal point for the entire building. Working collaboratively with a design-savvy client, Arcsine sought to combine the contemporary feel of the market with an old-world inspired beer and ceviche bar. Traditional materials were rendered in a new way; wood fl ooring was reclaimed from a San Francisico church and reused on the bar front, copper was freshly formed into a thick bar top with eased edges, and a custom contemporary light fixture was crafted from rustic materials such as oil-rubbed bronze and seeded glass. These elements combined to create a comfortable, cozy space that draws customers in, while still feeling at home in the larger market.
